Land Rover name was originally used by the Rover Company as the name of one of their models, Land Rover, launched by Rover in 1948 In the following years it developed into a brand name of its own for 4-wheel drive vehicle, such as Defender, Discovery, Freelander, Range Rover, Range Rover Sport and Range Rover Evoque. Land Rover currently has at Halewood and Solihull plants, with research and development facilities at Gaydon and Whitley. Land Rover sold 194,000 vehicles in 2009 [7]
In June 2008, Ford sold Jaguar and Land Rover brands to Tata Motors Cars. This sale also includes the Rover brand while not active.
